WHAT IS JKD?

JKD stands for Jeet Kune Do, which is a hybrid martial art that was developed by Bruce Lee in the late 1960s and early 1970s. JKD is often described as a "style without style" as it emphasises the principles of simplicity, directness, and non-classical movement patterns. JKD techniques include intercepting punches and kicks, trapping hands, and footwork designed to avoid attacks and create angles of attack. The philosophy of JKD extends beyond martial arts and emphasises personal development, self-expression, and individualism.

The name "Jeet Kune Do" translates to "Way of the Intercepting Fist," and the style emphasises minimal movement with maximum effect, utilising a variety of strikes, kicks, and grappling techniques.

JKD has evolved over time and has been influenced by various martial arts styles, including Wing Chun, Western boxing, and grappling. It also incorporates elements of philosophy and psychology, emphasising personal development, self-expression, and fluidity in combat.

Since the sad passing of Sigung Bustillo we have continued to train under IMB programme with Steve De La Cruz and Master Andy Gibney.

Not only is the club lucky enough have two Senior Instructors under the IMB programme. Jenny Thurston is the only female UK Senior Instructor in the IMB family.

We pride ourselves on focusing on the individual within the style they study, as we feel that a single martial art style is not always applicable to each and every person. Students, as individuals, are different in size, physical ability, interest level and goals and we aspire to enable our students to reach their full potential.

The "JKD" classes provide a controlled atmosphere that allows students to safely experience multiple types of disciplines and find their way within JKD.
